Cato察Lucilius察and others。
BRUTUS。 Yet察countrymen察O察yet hold up your heads CATO。 What
bastard doth not拭Who will go with me拭I will proclaim my name about
the field。 I am the son of Marcus Cato察 ho A foe to tyrants察 and my
country's friend。 I am the son of Marcus Cato察ho BRUTUS。 And I am
Brutus察Marcus Brutus察I察Brutus察my country's friend察know me for Brutus
Exit。 LUCILIUS。 O young and noble Cato察art thou down拭Why察now thou
diest as bravely as Titinius察 And mayst be honor'd察 being Cato's son。
FIRST SOLDIER。 Yield察 or thou diest。 LUCILIUS。 Only I yield to die。
Offers money。А There is so much that thou wilt kill me straight此 Kill
Brutus察 and be honor'd in his death。 FIRST SOLDIER。 We must not。 A
noble prisoner SECOND SOLDIER。 Room察 ho Tell Antony察 Brutus is
ta'en。 FIRST SOLDIER。 I'll tell the news。 Here comes the general。
Enter Antony。
Brutus is ta'en察 Brutus is ta'en察 my lord。 ANTONY。 Where is he拭
LUCILIUS。 Safe察Antony察Brutus is safe enough。 I dare assure thee that no
enemy Shall ever take alive the noble Brutus察The gods defend him from
so great a shame When you do find him察 or alive or dead察 He will be
found like Brutus察like himself。 ANTONY。 This is not Brutus察friend察but察I
assure you察A prize no less in worth。 Keep this man safe察 Give him all
kindness察 I had rather have Such men my friends than enemies。 Go on察
And see wheer Brutus be alive or dead察And bring us word unto Octavius'
tent How everything is chanced。 Exeunt。

THE TRAGEDY OF JULIUS CAESAR
SCENE V。 Another part of the field。
Enter Brutus察Dardanius察Clitus察Strato察and Volumnius。
BRUTUS。 Come察poor remains of friends察rest on this rock。 CLITUS。
Statilius show'd the torchlight察but察my lord察He came not back。 He is or
ta'en or slain。 BRUTUS。 Sit thee down察Clitus。 Slaying is the word此It is a
deed in fashion。 Hark thee察Clitus。 Whispers。 CLITUS。 What察I察my lord拭
No察not for all the world。 BRUTUS。 Peace then察no words。 CLITUS。 I'll
rather kill myself。 BRUTUS。 Hark thee察 Dardanius。 Whispers。
DARDANIUS。 Shall I do such a deed拭 CLITUS。 O Dardanius
DARDANIUS。 O Clitus CLITUS。 What ill request did Brutus make to
thee拭 DARDANIUS。 To kill him察 Clitus。 Look察 he meditates。 CLITUS。
Now is that noble vessel full of grief察That it runs over even at his eyes。
BRUTUS。 Come hither察 good Volumnius察 list a word。 VOLUMNIUS。
What says my lord拭BRUTUS。 Why察this察Volumnius此The ghost of Caesar
hath appear'd to me Two several times by night察at Sardis once察And this
last night here in Philippi fields。 I know my hour is come。 VOLUMNIUS。
Not so察my lord。 BRUTUS。 Nay I am sure it is察Volumnius。 Thou seest the
world察Volumnius察how it goes察Our enemies have beat us to the pit察Low
alarums。 It is more worthy to leap in ourselves Than tarry till they push us。
Good Volumnius察Thou know'st that we two went to school together察Even
for that our love of old察I prithee察Hold thou my sword´hilts察whilst I run
on it。 VOLUMNIUS。 That's not an office for a friend察 my lord。 Alarum
still。 CLITUS。 Fly察 fly察 my lord察 there is no tarrying here。 BRUTUS。
Farewell to you察and you察and you察Volumnius。 Strato察thou hast been all
this while asleep察Farewell to thee too察Strato。 Countrymen察My heart doth
joy that yet in all my life I found no man but he was true to me。 I shall
have glory by this losing day察More than Octavius and Mark Antony By
this vile conquest shall attain unto。 So察fare you well at once察for Brutus'
tongue Hath almost ended his life's history。 Night hangs upon mine eyes察
my bones would rest That have but labor'd to attain this hour。 Alarum。 Cry
within察 Fly察fly察fly ─CLITUS。 Fly察my lord察fly。 BRUTUS。 Hence I will
follow。 Exeunt Clitus察 Dardanius察 and Volumnius。 I prithee察 Strato察 stay
thou by thy lord。 Thou art a fellow of a good respect察Thy life hath had

some smatch of honor in it。 Hold then my sword察and turn away thy face察
While I do run upon it。 Wilt thou察Strato拭STRATO。 Give me your hand
first。 Fare you well察 my lord。 BRUTUS。 Farewell察good Strato。 Runs on
his sword。 Caesar察now be still察I kill'd not thee with half so good a will。
Dies。
Alarum。 Retreat。 Enter Octavius察Antony察Messala察Lucilius察and the
Army。
OCTAVIUS。 What man is that拭MESSALA。 My master's man。 Strato察
where is thy master拭STRATO。 Free from the bondage you are in察Messala此
The conquerors can but make a fire of him察 For Brutus only overcame
himself察And no man else hath honor by his death。 LUCILIUS。 So Brutus
should be found。 I thank thee察 Brutus察 That thou hast proved Lucilius'
saying true。 OCTAVIUS。 All that served Brutus察 I will entertain them。
Fellow察wilt thou bestow thy time with me拭STRATO。 Ay察if Messala will
prefer me to you。 OCTAVIUS。 Do so察 good Messala。 MESSALA。 How
died my master察Strato拭STRATO。 I held the sword察and he did run on it。
MESSALA。 Octavius察 then take him to follow thee That did the latest
service to my master。 ANTONY。 This was the noblest Roman of them all。
All the conspirators察 save only he察 Did that they did in envy of great
Caesar察 He only察 in a general honest thought And common good to all察
made one of them。 His life was gentle察and the elements So mix'd in him
that Nature might stand up And say to all the world察 This was a man ─
OCTAVIUS。 According to his virtue let us use him With all respect and
rites of burial。 Within my tent his bones tonight shall lie察 Most like a
soldier察ordered honorably。 So call the field to rest察and let's away察To part
the glories of this happy day。 Exeunt。
